Here are several scenarios,  in
each and every one an on the scene geriatric case manager
can make all the difference.
•
The hospital called my wife and said they're sending her Mother
home tomorrow. We live in Connecticut and both work.
•
There is no way in the world I can tell my Mom she has to
go into a nursing home or assisted living facility.
•
It costs my parents over $1,000 a month for prescriptions.
•
I've been trying to get my parents to sign a Health Care Power
of Attorney Form.
•
I've been trying to get my parents to sign a Durable Power
of Attorney Form.
•
I've been told there are ways to shelter funds and still qualify
for Medicaid.
•
My dad is a veteran and could qualify for benefits, but there's
no way he could get there or spend 8 hours by himself obtaining
these benefits.
•
My father needs round the clock nursing. It's costing us $2,000
a week!
•
My parents will not discuss their financial details with anyone.
•
When I visited last month I looked at Mom's check book...there
are way too many checks made out to CASH. What's going on?
•
My Dad's in a nursing home, Mom has $40,000 plus her condo.
Can we apply for Medicaid?
•
I don't think my parents are eating properly. They no longer
drive and can't get to the grocery store.
•
My Dad's in failing health, yet he refuses to go to any doctor.

My parents used to be out with friends every night. You could
never get them on the phone. Now, as friends die, they're becoming
totally isolated.

When we watch the weather channel and hear about hurricanes coming
to Florida, my wife begins to cry as she is worried what will
happen to her folks.

Every time we go on vacation, one of our 4 parents gets sick.
We're afraid to make plane reservations to go anywhere.

Sometimes my Mother is out of touch for days, I have to reach
the doorman in her building to find out where she is.

Although I want my folks on Medicare, every time another salesman
comes to their condo, they sign up for another HMO. Not to mention
magazines and other offers.

My father can't see anymore, but every couple of years his driver's
license gets renewed. I need to take his car away, but I fear
it will kill him not to drive.
•
My parents have an illegal aide cooking and cleaning for them.
Every time I call she does not know enough English to answer any
questions. I fear something is happening there.
•
I'm fairly certain my parents are not taking their medications
correctly.
•
Although my Mother seems extremely depressed when we speak, if
I mention the word psychiatrist, she hangs up on me.
•
I think my parents have money in about 10 different banks in New
York and Florida. I'm fairly certain they no longer remember exactly
where.
•
My wife and I have hired an Aide to care for her Mother about
5 different times. The day after we leave Florida, her Mom fires
the Aide.
•
My parents live in a home that is beginning to fall down around
them. Every time I suggest a repair or improvement, they tell
me they don't want to spend the money, as they're saving it for
me, my sister and our kids.
•
My sister visits my Parents in Florida every three months or so.
Every time she goes she borrows more money. They really can't
afford this.
•
My parents' money is managed by a bank. Last month they cashed
one check for $16,000. Something is very wrong here.
•
My dad played poker every Thursday night for 9 years. Now he refuses
to play and he won't discuss it.
•
My mother no longer talks to her sister or her sister's children.
When I tell her that this is not a healthy situation, she turns
her face to the wall.
•
I don't think my Dad bathes more than twice a month and his clothes
are not clean. He was extremely fastidious his entire life, I
can't stand to see him like this.
